Solomon Awards 2019 – Celebration Church (Church Building Design – Traditional and Contemporary)

  • Celebration Church; Georgetown, Texas.
Pastors Joe and Lori Champion moved their family from Louisiana to Georgetown, Texas, with the vision for Celebration Church. They acquired a 110-acre property in 2005, and initially constructed a 36,400 square foot building, expanding it by 19,250 square feet in 2007. By 2014, they had outgrown their space and required a larger Auditorium and Children’s Department, to address their current and future needs.

In 2015, SPACE was enlisted to complete the programming and design of their new building and align it with the available budget. Initially programmed at 75,000 square feet, the building’s estimated cost was far below budget. This allowed the church to expand the program, so that an additional 15,000 square feet of classroom space was provided in the Children’s Department, enlarging the new facility to approximately 90,000 square feet.

The new facility is located on the highest point of the property within view of I-35. Directly west of their original building, the new central church facility provides 27,000 square feet of auditorium space with more than 2,400 seats. Construction includes exposed structural steel, limestone and polished concrete flooring.

The Children’s Department includes 24 classrooms serving infants through fifth graders, 1,400 square feet for volunteers and 7,000 square feet of space dedicated to church operations. The original building has been reprogrammed to support Youth programs and a new Austin satellite campus for Southeastern University (Lakeland, Florida).

Celebration Church has found the new facility addresses their needs for expanded worship space and supporting functions, state-of-the-art video and broadcasting capabilities (designed by Summit Integrated Systems), and an elevated environment for their Children’s ministries.

Since occupancy, the building has surpassed their expectations and has become a focal point in the north Austin community.
